Sample project
A staircase,made the centrepiece.
A new newel post, handrail and spindles, with worn treads clad in solid timber.
A sample project with illustrative photography. It shows the kind of work we do; it is not a completed customer job.

- Setting
- A tired staircase in a hallway that deserved better
- Services
- Stair upgrades, timber repairs
- Rooms
- Hallway and landing
- Materials
- Solid timber treads, newel, handrail and spindles
The brief
What the space needed.
In this sample brief, the stairs were sound but tired: carpet worn through on the treads, a wobbly handrail and a mix of spindles from earlier repairs.
The owners wanted the staircase to be the first thing you notice in the hall, in warm natural timber rather than paint.

Scope of work
What was made and fitted.
- Worn treads and risers clad in solid timber
- A new fluted newel post with a moulded cap
- A new handrail, fixed firm at both ends
- Square spindles set out to the 100 mm rule
- Skirting along the string tidied and refitted
Approach
How it would come together.
Start with the space
A visit to check the structure under the carpet, measure every tread and confirm the stairs were sound enough to clad.
Agree the details
Newel and spindle profiles chosen from samples, with the timber, finish and spindle spacing agreed in writing.
Make it fit
Treads clad from the bottom up, the newel fixed solid, then the handrail and spindles set out and fitted.
